We want a public infrastructure that ensures all children have the opportunity to succeed.
The public and elected officials care deeply about children and recognize the critical importance to raising the next generation to succeed. They place this at the top of their overall list of concerns for the future.
At the same time, immediate needs and issues often distract from this long-term agenda and maintaining the infrastructure children need, which includes health, economic security, early care and education, safety and support, and a sound k-post secondary education base. Their families and communities play a lead role in raising the next generation, but they cannot do it without a public infrastructure of support.
We want to make sure that we elect votes and voices in Congress to enact that broad and deep overall agenda for children and their families. It is not enough to care deeply about children; we need a Congress that is committed to act.
The child policy and advocacy community has the expertise and knowledge not only to define the components of an infrastructure for children and their families, but to create programs and policies that ensure they will be successful. Different policy experts have expertise and have been key advocates for different elements -- child care, family leave, maternal mortality, juvenile justice, community health.
Our effort here is not to set these up as competing agenda items for Congressional deliberation, but as an overall agenda that can realize our goal that all children have the full opportunity to succeed. President Biden and the Congress have recognized the importance of such an infrastructure.
We aim to show there is a powerful constituency for such action that will mobilize for and support such action in Congress, starting with electing difference makers to make that happen.
